Location: San Diego, CA
Clinician Type: Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant (NP/PA)
Unit/Dept: Gastroenterology – Outpatient Clinic
Unit Details:
Clinic-based GI practice in a large integrated specialty center. 100% outpatient consultative work with no procedures. Provider focuses on initial consultations, medication management, in-basket follow-ups, and contacting patients after pathology results. Adult-only population. May flex to nearby GI clinic sites as needed.
Additional Providers/Support Staff: GI physicians and advanced practice providers, RN/MA support, and clinic operations staff.
EMR System(s): EPIC (Health Connect – KP’s version of EPIC)
Lic/Certs: Active California license required at presentation | NP or PA | BLS
BC/BE: Board Certified required. Credentialing Timeframe: Estimated 90 days from application submission.
Start Date: ASAP
Duration: 6 months preferred (will consider 3 months, with option to extend for continuity)
Shift: Monday–Friday, 8:00a–5:00p
Schedule / Call Coverage: Full-time, 40 hours/week, No call, No weekends or holidays
Housing/Travel:
All-Inclusive Pay Package – no facility reimbursements allowed (providers arrange and cover their own travel and lodging; all-inclusive rates are structured accordingly).

Notes:
- Vaccination: COVID preferred (waivers considered); flu vaccine mandatory.
- Adult-only GI population.
- Must be comfortable with GI consults, med management, and high in-basket follow-up volume.
- Licensing candidates NOT considered – must have active CA license at time of submission.
Required Experience:
- Adult outpatient GI or closely related internal medicine subspecialty experience.
- Prior work in large multispecialty or integrated systems preferred.
Preferred Experience:
- GI clinic experience (consults, follow-up, med management).
- Comfort with EPIC and high-volume messaging/in-basket work.
Hospital / Practice Details (Non-duplicative):
- Case Mix: Adult-only gastroenterology – chronic GI conditions, follow-up after procedures, med management, and pathology result discussions.
- Subspecialty Cases: General GI only; no procedural responsibilities for this role.
- Unique Features: Integrated GI team with EPIC Health Connect, centralized specialty center, and ability to flex to nearby GI clinics (Otay Mesa, San Marcos).
Greatest Challenges:
Balancing a steady clinic schedule with high in-basket volume (messages, med refills, and pathology result follow-ups) while maintaining excellent communication with the GI physician team.
